William Clement 1787-?

Born:

March 1787, oldest of 15 children to Alexander Clement and Grizel Allan, in the parish of Balmaclellan, Kircudbrightshire. Christened at Balmaclellan Parish Church (Church of Scotland) on 22 March 1787.

Life:

Age 30, had illegitimate daughter by Janet McLellan, mentioned in OPR 2 Apr 1818 as having taken place 8 months before (therefore she was born approx Aug 1817). Baby died of chincough (whooping cough) 3 Apr 1820 age 2. On 11th Oct 1818, married Barbara Mckie (born in Kirkinner). Had 2 daughters, Elizabeth b 1820 m Wm Russell of Govan and Grizzel (Grace) b 1822 d 1885 spinster.

In the 1841 census, William was a carter, living in Balmaclellan with wife Barbara and daughter Elizabeth. In the 1851 census, William and Barbara are designated as paupers, still living in Balmaclellan with unmarried daughter Grace (agricultural labourer).

Died:

August 16th 1860, age 73, certified by daughter Grace.
