| Matthew Clement 1799-? | |
Born: September 1799 , seventh son and ninth of 15 children to Alexander Clement and Grizel Allan, in the parish of Balmaclellan, Kircudbrightshire. Christened at Balmaclellan Parish Church (Church of Scotland) on 22 September 1799. Life: Present at the wedding of sister Rosanna to James Charters Currie in 1824, age 24. Mentioned in letter of 1833 from JCC in Dumfries to Rosanna. Possible marriage from the IGI: Matthew CLEMENT to Mary WADDELL 16 July 1830 at St Dunstan Stepney (same church as JCC and Rosanna were married in). This family had 6 children, and the Matthew was a linen draper in the 1841 census (age fits with our Matthew). Note that in the 1851 census there is a Matthew Clement age 50 Draper, visiting a house in Lambeth with a load of other people – waterman (boatman who plies for hire – R Thames), 2 miners, baker, coachman, chair maker, hatter, rag man and bone picker. The rest of the family are in Liverpool. Died: Not known. |
