Born: 28 June 1834, fifth child and first daughter of James Charters Currie and Rosanna Clement. Christened at St Vincent Street Scotch Church, Stepney on 27 July 1834. Life: In 1850 , at the time of the death of her mother, Margaret as oldest daughter took the place of her mother for her 6 younger siblings. Before 1871 married a Mr Mair and gave birth to daughter Rose in June 1871, when she was aged 36. In 1873, aged 39, emigrated to Toronto, Canada, with daughter Rose (information from the 1901 Canadian census). Lived in Toronto at least until 1901. Possible 1881 Canadian census record - husband Thomas Mair, labourer, (45, same age as Maggie), son John C (12, newsboy) and daughter Rose E (10). No mention of husband or other children in letters of 1896 (no previous letters kept from her) so this may not be the correct family. In 1895, visited Alexander and other siblings in London. Known as Maggie. In 1896, boarding with a landlord in 183 Strachan Avenue, Toronto. In 1901 living as a 'roomer', aged 66, along with daughter Rose, age 29, at the house of the Stacey family (Josiah, Susan and 5 children). Rose works in a factory as a book keeper. Died: ? |
