| John Johnston 1818-1883 | |
Born: 30 Jun 1818 in Leslie Fife, oldest son of John Johnston and Janet Oswald. Christened in Leslie Parish Church. Life: In 1851 he was House Governor and Headmaster of "George Watsons Hospital for the Education & Maintenance of Boys, the sons and grandsons of Merchants, Businesses and Guild Brothers of Edinburgh" with a matron, 2 porters, 2 nurses, 4 maids including 2 ward maids, 2 laundresses, 81 pupils and 2 other teachers - an English master and a Classical master. Later became a farmer in Sandwick Orkney, then married Violet Gaddes (widow, maiden surname Pairman) and lived in Bannockburn and then Glenside Farm, St Ninian's Parish, Stirling, as a coal master, land owner and farmer. Died: Died 4 Oct 1883 Glenside Farm, St Ninians Parish, Stirling of "disease of the heart".
