John Clement Currie 1825-1854

Born:

10 May 1825 in St Dunstans, Stepney, oldest son of James Charters Currie and Rosanna Clement. Christened at St Vincent Street Scotch Church, Stepney on 8 Jun 1825. Named after Rosanna's elder brother John Clement, who she worked for as a housekeeper and who died in 1823.

Life:

Oldest child of JCC and Rosanna and caused them some grief. 21 Oct 1841, age 16, enlisted as merchant seaman on the barque "Majestic" of Montrose "with the consent of his father", paid 4 pounds for the first year, 5 for the second up to £7 for the 4th year. Mother very upset and worried.

Died:

Died of cholera in Khurachee Scinde, East Indies (Karachi), age 28, on 27 Jan 1854. His father heard the news on the 23rd April. Buried (or remembered) on Nunhead Cemetery grave 1734/162, now in Southwark London.
