| John Clement 1789-1823 |
Born:
July 1789, second son and third of 15 children of Alexander Clement and Grizell Allan, in the parish of Balmaclellan, Kircudbrightshire. Christened at Balmaclellan Parish Church (Church of Scotland) on 17 July 1879.
Life:
Lived in Dudley Staffordshire in 1817, age about 26, employing 13 year old sister Rosanna as a housekeeper. Moved with Rosanna to London in 1822, age about 31.
Died:
Died "after getting into the River Thames" in London in May 1823, age 33. Buried (or mentioned on gravestone) in Balmaclellan kirk,

On the 15th instant on board the smack King George, on his way from Leith to
London (where he had been for the recovery of his health) Mr. John Clement of
York Street London, son of Mr. Clement, Martinston Moor, parish of Balmaclellan
aged 33 years. He was a most affectionate and dutiful son, an exemplary
brother, a kind and indulgent master, and one of the most sincere and best
of friends to his surviving relatives, his loss is irreparable, and to an
extensive circle of acquaintances, his death has made a block that will not
soon be filled up, of him we may truly say We shall not soon look upon his
like again, his many amiable qualities will be long remembered by those who
had the pleasure of his acquaintance, and who can best appreciate inestimable
worth.
