| Janet (Jessie) Oswald 1797-1891 | |
Born: Born 27 Sep 1797 at Kinghorn, second daughter of John Oswald, farmer, and Mary Kininmond (or Kinninmonth or Kinninmount) married 8 Sep 1795. Older sister Jean 1796, younger sisters Katharine 1800 (who larried David Beatson) and Mary 1803. Life: Married United Presbyterian minister John Johnston 2 May 1817 at Kinghorn, Fife, and had 9 children - John, Alexander, Mary, Jane #1, Janet (Jessie), Elizabeth, William, Agnes and Jane #2 between 1819 and 1835, all christened in the parish Church of Leslie, Fife. Lived in Leslie, Fife. Husband John died in 1852 but son William stayed on as minister until 1863. Jessie then followed him to Alexandria in Dumbartonshire where he was a minister until ill-health intervened. He went to Canada and resigned his ministry from there but later returned to Scotland and Jessie lived with him in Wamphray, Dumfriesshire, until her death. At the time of the 1881 census she was staying in Kincardine with daughter Jeanie. Died: Died Feb 28 1891 at the manse in Wamphray age 93.
