Born: August 1795 fifth son and twin to Mary (sixth and seventh children out of 15 of Alexander Clement and Grizell Allan), in the parish of Balmaclellan, Kircudbrightshire. Christened at Balmaclellan Parish Church (Church of Scotland) on 17 August 1795. Life: Married Mary Douglas, date not found. Alexander b 1823, Jane b 1825 and James b 1837 (OPR). In 1841 census, James is an agricultural labourer, living at St John's Clachan Dalry. No sign of wife Mary. Agnes, 13, James, 6, Janet, 4. Do not know if these are his children. In the 1851 census, James is down as a widower, still an ag lab, living in Back Street, Dalry. Died: James died 16 Jan 1870 age 75 at Parkmaclarg Minnigaff, wit Thomas Callander son-in-law
