| Alexander Clement 1750-1820 | |
Born: 1750 - this date is calculated from the Balmaclellan gravestone - son of Robert Clement (approx 1713 - 1804) and Janet Black (approx 1734 - 1804) Life: Farmer. Married to Grizel Allan in June 1786. Lived in the parish of Balmaclellan where children were christened. Had 16 children, 11 survived (according to son-in-law James Charters Currie's diary) between 1787 and 1813. From children's birth records, his place of residence is given as Cubbox Muir (or Moor) between 1804 and 1810, and at Martinston in 1813. He was still in Martinston when his son John died in 1823. We know of 15 children - William, Janet, John (d age 33), Jacob (d age 6), Robert, twins James and Mary (d age 1), Jacob 2 (d age 46), Matthew, Mary2 (d infant), Rosanna, David (d age 7), Alexander (d age 20), Margaret and Jane Eleonora. Died: 27 Feb 1820(?), age 70, buried at Balmaclellan Kirkyard, along with his parents: Also buried are children Mary, Jacob, David, John and Alex, all died young, see individual biographies. No record in that grave for wife Grizel née Allan, but she died much later on, in 1854. Note that the transcription from the grave has many discrepancies from the Balmaclellan Parish Register records. Where I can, I have used the Parish Register dates and ages. |
